A Story of Hope, I Hope!

Just in case you are interested, this is a brief background as to how I arrived at this juncture in my life, and where I am trying to go from here.

Having left the Royal Air Force in 1980, I had a number of jobs, none of which amounted to a great deal. I was trading as a Mobile Caterer on the A11 near Thetford in Norfolk (my most successful venture up to then), when in June 2008, I was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour. This necessitated my closing the business to undergo surgery.

The after effects of the surgery were quite severe, leaving me with a long list of disabilities including:- Balance Problems, Nerve Pains, Weakness on my right side, Lack of Sensation on my left side and, most annoyingly, Loss of Taste (I love my food!).

This is not an exhaustive list, but bad enough. Since the operation and subsequent Radiotherapy in July 2009, some of the side effects have improved to a more manageable level.

Between the operation and the beginning of 2009, I set myself the task of deciding on a suitable new career, either full or part-time depending on my disabilities. Having had a little experience of photography, I decided to train to become a professional in this field. One of the deciding factors was that there is a large range of specialist areas to chose from, depending on my residual disabilities and the areas that interested me most.

There are a number of areas I have yet to experience, but have tried to make use of any opportunities that present themselves, to tackle new types of photography. One of my prime areas is Animals (including birds and insects) and most especially horses, and I have a number of projects in mind towards this end.

Another area I feel confident in is Architecture, and I spent some interesting hours taking shots of the Colleges in Cambridge while attending Addenbrooke’s for my Radiology (see my diary in the Tumour Information section of this site) in 2009.

In November 2009, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Sevilla (Seville to the English amongst us), and attended the large equestrian fair, SICAB. On my return I was lucky enough to have an article and some of my pictures published, by Redpin Publishing, in a number of their regional horse magazines, the article can be seen in the Publications section of www.colin-allison.com.

The East Harling Parish held a competition, in 2009, for pictures of the church; this was split into Day and Night categories. I unfortunately did not have any night shots, but one of the six daytime shots I submitted was chosen as the best, and is included in the website www.walkingwithyou.org.uk (on the Harling Church page), and will be included in the new village guide.

I also entered some of my photographs in a local exhibition, and three of them were selected out of over 200 entries, for inclusion in a 2011 calendar.

In 2011 I have been introduced to a form of photography called, High Dynamic Range which has also now become a favoured area for me. An explination of this type of photographty, and examples of some of my work, will be included on www.colin-allison.com.

Having had previous experience, and current experience with my own websites, I am now offering a Website Design service. If you are considering a Business or Personal site I will be happy to discuss your requirements, including Design, Hosting, suitable Site Address purchase and any Photographic Content required.

If you are considering having photographs taken in any of the following areas, please feel free to contact me:-
